I participated in a shootout of the 1073, GR and 5012. The best one varied according to the vocalist. At different points in the shootout each one was better depending on the source. Also remember, the 1073 is a preamp and EQ so overall more verstatile. We disengaged the EQ during the shootout, the difference was very slight between the 1073 and the 5012, the GR had a little more low mid.
