These things are always on a case by case basis, as workmanship and wood and how the guitar was aged are important, one might be a dud the next might be a real gem.

However, i wouldn't hesitate giving an early 70's guild a whirl, there can be some great value buys.

Having said that, the most important thing first would be if you are definitely after a dread sound for the type of earthy folk you are looking for.

If not, hard to get past that point regardless of the desirability or value in a vintage guitar.
