I currently use a glass toslink and am looking to pick up a couple more. Without opening the whole cable debate, at the very least the glass toslink cables tend to be of much higher construction quality. Considering how much is invested in the gear on either end of the cable, it seems like a decent idea to avoid the el cheapo plastic one. I needed a second one and picked up a cheap plastic one to get me by in the meantime and the thing pretty much looks and feels like garbage. If you wanted to avoid the 'no name' brand type of cable, I'd suggest you look at Wireworld, who make a very well constructed and moderately priced glass toslink cable. I've found 2m versions of this cable for $75. Not cheap...but not too expensive.
