The 2496 (if its the one I'm thinking of, the same one I have) you can just run the s/pdif out of the back of the rme into the s/pdif in on your 2496.
This is exactly what I plan to do tomorrow...my ADI-2 arrived today.
The s/pdif ports on the 2496 dont hit the converters on the card, they just carry the signal to the PC. The conversion is done by the RME.
