If you go for the RME ADI-2 (2channel AD/DA convertor), there's nothing to set up: just hook it up to the spdif I/O from your 002R and you're set.

If you choose the RME Fireface, it's different, because the Fireface is a soundcard by itself (like 002R). But, thanks to the Totalmix DSP routing system in it, you can route the analog inputs back to the ADAT out, and the ADAT in back to the analog outs. Hence setting up the Fireface as 8 channel ADAT ADDA convertor. To do this routing setup, you first have to connect it via Firewire to a computer so that you have access to the Totalmix setup software.

Another option would be to go for the RME ADI-8. This is an 8 channel AD/DA convertor that needs no special setup. Just hook it up to your 002R's ADAT port and you're set! It's slightly more expensive then a Fireface however.
