Hi Geert, thanks for the response.
I'd already tried to use the PB as a target disk from my G5, but guess what, it causes a Panic on my G5 as soon as the desk top appears. I'd also tried to boot from a separate, firewire OS disk but again, Panic.

I'd LOVE to just wipe the HD and start afresh but i'm beginning to think that it must be kaput and needs replacing....
