no idea on the C1, but I got good vocal sounds with a røde k2... in montreal that was our main vocal mic... good stuff.. makes a 414 sound small and boxy by comparison...
we pretty much only used the mic for 2 applications, main vocals and drum room (or front of kit) and it worked fine for those apps.... it likes the DW Fearn mic pre, but then who doesnt? it also likes LA-3A compression..
IIRC we pretty much stuck to cardiod pattern unless we were doing backing vocals then I remember some fig8 stuff... haven't used one in a few years so my memory is fuzzy but I don't ever remember wishing we had a better mic... there were always much bigger problems to solve...
so I never really did too much A/B testing with the røde.. did a lil in the beginning, it won vs what we had and I just considered it "good enough" for the 2 years I used it...
