Thanks Evenna,

Part of my confusion lies in the Frequency though. I understand how a stepdown / stepup transformer can tap the coil halfway and go from 220v - down to - 110v... or vice-versa, but How does it change the frequency from 50hz - to - 60hz?

I just don't understand because to me, 50 cycles on one side of a coil, should still be 50 cycles on the other side of the coil.
