I live in the 21st century; why would I care what you speculate a group of hypothetical people in a hypothetical situation 30-40 years ago would have thought?

My clients can't really afford to pay what my work is worth, so, if a relatively cheap tool can help me get that work accomplished more efficiently, I'd be pretty silly not to take advantage of it.

Then there is the ubiquitous opportunity to use any given tool in ways that it was not intended...I'm pretty sure "they" would have whole heartedly approved of that idea.
