Well I got you beat on the years as a professional musician and studio work! I didn't finish the above sentence though. It's much easier to simplify or take away and get to the essence, than it is to add chops and musical sophistication. In other words it takes years of serious practice to develop the kind of chops to play Dave Weckle type drums as opposed to laying down a groove in 4. Different animals all together. Not that playing in the pocket is easy. Learning how to simplify is an art, especially if you have all those chops. But having to play with a ton of chops when you don't have any is impossible.
