Yes it's compressed a lot (too much, you're right), and I surely wouldn't do that to a studio mix, but I had to brighten it up too, to clear the attack of the drums, which had a strange sound. The C3 worked well for that.
I used a Logic channel EQ to cut some 100 Hz, 180 Hz, and 1 khz, but it's still a bit muddy in the low end.
Anyway the Purple are great, I love them, even if I couldn't have the chance to test them on different sources for the moment.
