I have a client liek that too, but with him it's all about the feel- it's got to be at the tempo that feels right when he's playing his acoustic- it never worked to play him a click & say, "does that feel right? How about this?" So what we do is I let him play the song a few times through by himself, usually singing and playing at the same time, have him listen back & decide which section of which take has the best feel, then I make a click to match that, & we start tracking for real. Works great.
