| Mackie 1640i Bandwidth
News for all you guys - Firewire 400 has a definite bandwidth limit, and it has been my experience that 16 channels with a Firewire hard drive is very close to the limit on the firewire bus bandwidth. I tried to sync 4 Presonus Firestudio Project modules and found that they would only sync if I installed a new Firewire card in my Mac Pro for the Firestudio projects, and synced only at 48kHz/24 bits. 96 KHz - 32 tracks was impossible because of the data flow limits. I would guess that the same is true of the Mackie Onyx 1640i - I just used one last weekend for 2 remotes at 96/24, 16 channels and it worked fine, but I doubt that 32 tracks would work off the same Firewire bus. Use your two Mackies with two laptops and two hard drives, import one set of tracks into the other file, and sync the two files back in the studio by eye and ear!
