I like Drawmer 241s for compression and 201/404s as gates for live application.

DBX 166 is also a good go-to comp for live.

You could pick up a bevy of used Drawmers for $1500-$2000.

Everyone seems to use those Presonus ACP88s now, but they always feel like they are going to fall apart every time I turn a knob.
