The fact is you can't push a closed speaker too far.
The air trapped behind which gives it a "punchy" sound.
It helps the braking of the speaker on both ends of its travel.
At a certain displacement the air becomes much harder to compress and the sound is compromised.
At a reasonable volume it works very well, push it too hard and you'll hear it.
Bass-reflex overshoot more easily, and they have their own limits as well.
