| Steve's New Racks In the spirt of Steve's studio build thread I thought I would create a related thread showing the process of building Steve's new racks.
I am in the process of creating the detailed drawings and when I complete them I will post copies.
In short, here is the plan:
There will be three racks asembled side by side with comon face frames where they meet. The racks will stand on a 8" high 20" deep kick panel with 12" deep built-in drawers on over-extending drawer slides. The back of the kick riser will house a hidden 8"x8" wireway at the back of the cabinets.
The racks themselves will be 40" tall (48" from the floor including the kick riser) and 24" deep (at the deepest). They will have a total of 22 spaces each with the lower 14 spaces angled back at 11 deg and the top 8 vertical. The rack steel wil be incorperated into a complete rack frame that will hinge out from the bottom until the face of the gear is 90 deg to the floor. This way the backs of the gear can be easily accessed. The rack frame will serve as a attachment point for all cabling and power strips and will prevint the rack steel from, well, racking when the the assembly is hinged out.
The cabinets will be assembled from 3/4" particle board with the sides, face frames, and top made from pecky alder which is knotty and has a really cool look when stained and finished. The alder side panels will also doubble as access doors.
I plan to photograph the whole process and post the progress here. I expect to have all the materials in two weeks so that is when the constrution will start.
.....Stay Tuned.....
