Great review... you make the unit sound very interesting indeed.

from Erwin at ES-Proaudio (very good service there!)
Can't say the same for my (very limited) experience... maybe I caught him on a bad day.

also gave me a full year warranty on it which was nice.
It's the minimum warranty allowed for professional dealers here in the EU. In fact, if it isn't specifically set to 1 year in the (verbal or written) contract, it is 2 years by default. Interestingly, most people living here aren't even aware of that. But yea, it's good you got that as an Australian buyer too.

I was also a bit on the fence about a blend control as I've got a return on my Backbone anyway, but it's a fantastic feature and opens up a huge range of possibilities. It also means my Backbone is freed up for other things too, and the levels don't change when you punch the compression in and out - at last!
So have you used the parallell much on the Alpha? I'm interested: what did you achieve with it, i.e. with what effect in mind?

The MS functionality is impressive. It has been my experience that you're asking for trouble using fast compression in MS as it can become obvious very easily, strangely the Alpha seems to be handling this task well, but perhaps its also been the careful settings I've used so far
Same question here... I'm interested to hear what effect you used the M/S for so far.

It's very well made, weighs a ton and costs a bomb but in the end it's probably going to save me a lot of money as I don't think I'll be 'eyeing off' any other 'solid state chicks' across the bar for some time to come.
I envy you there! I still have the nagging feeling that I need another VCA comp...
