Or is the PCB [printed circuit board-6 some DIY thing as well??] If referring to the PBC-6A, I would peg it as a compressor that is very different from any 1176, though similar in operation [with a fixed threshold and input gain drive towards the fixed threshold]. I don't fine them similar in action or tone, but easily similar in application and what I would use them on for sure! The 1176 is much faster though, and very aggressive in reacting to percussive material. The PBC-6a has a really cool "opto-ish" [using a VCA in feedback configuration] smoothing reaction with a very attractive mellowing of top end, [being that this unit allows for completely non-linear compression] that I would describe as softer with a nice non-deforming creaminess and color to it. The subtle tweaks of this unit go a ALONG way towards tone shaping and think its a smoking little box for the asking price.
