Since when is FW dead???
I mean.. it seems every other week someone's releasing a new FW interface.
That is the harsh reality of it, though we don't see it a so because the audio industry is usually the last to adopt new technologies

Unfortunately the audio industry's habits do not control the computer technology market, the general public do, and most of them have no use for firewire. There is nothing wrong with firewire, except stability, availability, and it is being phased out in favor of next generation technologies. Computer manufacturers are buying the cheapest chips because they see it as an unnecessary, but still expected, commodity. It has nothing to do with speed or bandwidth, just future availability and convenience.

In my personal opinion, if companies are still making new firewire-only products they are either (in order of probability):
A) expecting a short life out of the product
B) stubborn
C) stupid*

*Maybe it is smart that companies are still making firewire interfaces. It will force the buyer to upgrade sooner.
