Ever tried a Fullton 70's pedal? I had an old Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face for awhile and got the transitors switched to silcon like the fulltone and it sounds great. I use it with a LP Standard and a late 70's Marshall JMP Mk II 50 watt combo. Sounds great.
