elam 251 or an M49 are my two favorites, but generally you rent those or use them where someone else already owns it! U47 also. U87 works very well too. I like putting my schoeps mk4 up near the fingerboard in addition to the main mic down by the bridge and out 8-12 inches.
surprisingly on a budget, re20, senn 441 or 421 all work very well too.
upright bass is actually pretty easy to record as long as you put the mc in the right spot.
