When I did the lunchbox, Aphex was making them before API. They sold them cheap so they could sell modules, but most of everyone bought them for AP stuff. When they decided to discontinue it, I called Marvin Ceaser and asked him if he would mind if I started making them when they stopped. He said that it was fine with him and appreciated me asking. (Lesson #1: It never hurts to ask when you want to copy someone's art. Then it isn't as hard to give them credit)

The Aphex EQ and gate were good, but never had the sound that people expected because like with everything I did, it was always compared to a 550A. (It's funny now, but my new EQ is being compared to it, but in a nice way instead of this constant"does it sound the same?" crap I went through for 15 years.

The racks had +4 -2 selections for in and out, but the pinout was slightly different, and there seemed to always be a dB or so loss. The early lunchbox I did had the same selection jumpers, but included phantom power.

I don't think they ever owned B&B, but the relationship was very close. I used to be an Aphex dealer at my studio when the 602 was rented by the hour. Knew all those guys from Orange NY and beyond. The good old days.

The 900 series DBX rack was deaper and there was nothing else that fit it. I always embraced manufacturers that made API-Like modules for the Lunchbox, as long as they wern't just clones or modified old cards. The "current" company is a little strange about after market modules for the racks. There must be a hundred of them by now...
