i think the main thing with dilla drums is the groove... lots of people think that you need really great electronic drum kits or amazing drum sets, but dilla knows swing really well.

its like when drums are all layered and on top of each other, if there is no swing, then they all play at the same time. its harder to destinguish each drum hit and they kind of all mesh together. if there is a heavy swing. like lets say all the high hats are late, then the kick isnt hitting with anything else and is shining in its own glory.
