A question for anyone with bonefide electrical engineering credentials:

I like to keep my life simple - the fewer the boxes, the fewer the cable connections, the happier I am. Thus, I am looking at purchasing a Fostex D824MkII for field recordings.

The Fostex D824MkII uses the following chips: AD:AKM5393, DA:AKM4393. How do these rate? Are they qualitatively somewhere near the Lynx or Apogee?

Constructive thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
