Hi there, thinking about getting a new sound card and wanted to see what you guys would suggest. I'm looking at the EMU 0404 or 1212M PCIe units, as well, some cheaper RME and Lynx PCIe cards.

Right now, I am pretty much just using softsynths and in the event I do need to record bass, guitar, vocals, etc... I don't see I'll need more than two channels. Also going to be using outboard pres and AD/DA converters when I do start recording more of these instruments.

Given this, that is why I was leaning towards the 0404 and 1212M: cheap, PCIe, getting at least 2 channels of audio in the DAW if I need it, and they seems like they would suite my needs assuming there isn't major architectural issues that would make their handling of softsynths more deficient than their Lynx and RME counterparts.
