My partner bought an SP12 and we're now using this old little fella for all our drum sounds. We created 2 kits, one more of a "NYC"-Style-like and one "modern Dirty-South-like" one...
I usually work with my standard kits. Afterwards, if I'm not satisfied with the sounds, I replace them one by one..... I just need to work straight forward when I get new samples. Or to put it in another way, I always work pretty "raw" in the beginning, after the raw work is done I start with the finishing touches... e.g. changing the drumset, try another rhythm, try different basses, etc....
Well, works for me.... I'd hate it to be in the studio for hours and just looking for the perfect kick for the samples I've been diggin previously... could be that I'm a little bit impatient though, who knows
