Why not???
You would certainly not want to take the demeanor of
demanding a remix but if mixes came in that over compressed and distorted you would certainly want to communicate with the mix engineer as to why that is the case.
Are you implying that because Dave Fridman is a big name that proper communication regarding horrible sounding distortion and over compression should be avoided??? That is just plain silly in my honest opinion.
That being said I have a feeling (of course I don't know for sure though) that the sonic damage occurred in the mastering stage.
