I love my R1 Active MKIII - seriously sweet for room mic and some vocals.
As already said, just make sure there's no air hitting the diaphragm. And don't move it around too quick!
I use an Avantone CR14 on electric guitar (my cheap secret weapon - every guitarist I've recorded has been stunned) without a pop shield without problems, but maybe put one on if you crank the amp to 11...
