I was really asking as I own both the RB500s and a couple of Royer R122s (+using the R121s daily) and I just couldn't put the RB500s even approaching the same league as the Royers. I find the RB500s SUPER coloured and poor on transients, with a very very thick almost compressed sound - they have a quite spectacular lack of detail compared to the more high end ribbons I own and use (royer/aea/STC)!!! I will try to check out the 700s but they would have to be in a completely different league to the RB500s to be favourably compared to the Royers! I dig the RB500s for funky fx mics or honky mushy drum rooms etc.., but the R122s are (to borrow e-cue's phrase) "like ears", I find the R121s (with complementary loading) to be in a similar league to the R-122s!! Anyhow, don't really want to rant too much, but I thought I should put my oar in!!
All the best anyhow!!!
