The MR816 will not be a weak link. Alan parsons uses one.

The areas to look into now are room treatment, monitors, mics and outboard gear. Also set up a nice comp for music apps only and you will be way ahead of most people.

There are some great recordings being made in the box on systems not sounding as good as the MR816.

I was protools for many years using both HD and and LE and the MR816 is way better. Considering how many great albums have been made on PTHD and considering the converters in the MR816 are an improvement on that, there is nothing holding you back in this regard.

With that as a strong base you can place emphasis on engineering and production skills. That is where the biggest difference will be anyway.
