Replace the 5400 RPM system disk with a 7200 RPM disk (e.g. Hitachi 7K320 or 7K500). This will speed up booting tremendously.
In order to keep the original diagnostic partition, save the entire system disk on DVD's with Rescue and Recovery software and reinstall on the new disk from there.
Did it on my T60. Wow!
