I have a newer 16:2. It's all independent channel strips and the whole thing is made to open up really easy so you can change jumpers around on the channels to get the board to fit your needs. Look in the manual it tells you how to open it up. The caps and op amps and ics should all be labeled then either order the parts you want or ask questions on here about what replacement parts would be good for the board.
Of corce maybe all the parts in it arn't descrete then you might be looking for mic pre chips but might still be able to be done. People give this board high praise around here and I still think its under rated. Also unless your planning on doing major circuit revisions your friend shouldn't need the schematics although they are very nice to have.
