Hi all!
The battery in my old Kawai K4 died and all the factory sounds disappeared. Now I can't reset them and have only one (rather lousy) sound. Might anyone point me in the right direction?
First, let me tell you that I'm a newbie when it comes to sysex and MIDI control codes.
Then let med tell you what I've done so far:
1. tried to decode the reset info on
KAWAI Europa GmbH, but holding down the SYSTEM button during power on doesn't do anything. Also tried some combinations of other buttons that are said to be valid for other models.
2. downloaded the k4.mid from
KAWAI Europa GmbH and followed the instructions:
"The ZIP contains a SMF file (K4.mid), which can be played with a normal MIDI sequencer. Before playback set the K4 to: INT PROTECT = OFF, RCV EXCL = ON and RCV CH = 1." I tried importing and playing the file in REAPER and tried sending sysex with the VST plugin ReaControlMIDI. Couldn't make out what it actually did really.
3. installed MIDI-OX (
MIDIOX), set it up to use my E-MU sound card as output device (where the K4 is plugged in), asked it to "load sysex" and selected the k4.mid file, after which I hit "Send sysex". A progress meter apperaed and the MIDI port activity window indicated activity on the sysex channel, but still no change in my K4. Also tried sending the file a different way and the output monitoring window showed some output. I tried several times but still nothing. The output is attached in the text file, I wouldn't know if it is valid sysex code or if it said "Yo momma"...
Oh, when I asked MIDI-OX to check the code it said there were 7 errors in the code but surely Kawai would know best what codes their synth accepts??
Well, thankful for any help, I really miss the good old K4 sounds...
