If the output line is not current limited, a short circuit to ground, or to another not-current limited output could cause the driver(s) to burn out.

If the unit had a strong output with a low wattage, low value build out resistor, that resistor could be burned up from prolonged driving into a short to ground.

Well designed gear, should anticipate this... in a perfect world.

You probably need to check with the manufacturer if a low production volume product. Mass market products figure this out early, or never become mass market.
