The two work well together in balancing a mic, but I've been really interested in the HS50's...I think I want that white cone look and sound in my studio. I know they have like NO bass, but that might be a good thing.
I just got two pairs of HS50's and one pair has sub. I work close to my monitors so HS50 (lack of) bass response does not exist to me even in the non-sub pair...I am judging my sound pretty much on the mark. I personally also love to check bass in various headphones. I have a pair of all original NS10's I check thing on. I even picked the HS50's with a sub over HS80's with a sub...just sat better (technically/acoustically) in my smaller rooms.
