I say, give up the "use your ears" thing and create your own VSTs that produce the sound you want everyone to have. Include Barefoot, B&W, Dunlavy, and Duntech emulation for Mackie speakers and Weiss emulation for Samson Eqs.
I personnally am holding out for a Bob Katz mastering VST. | I recommend the already available book instead of waiting for the plug-in |
