Sonic Maximizer ... has a place in Mastering ?

Hi.. I see that the newer sonic maximizer 882i has very low noise, and balanced in's and out's... I have always thought this to be a cheapo live sound gizmo, and didn't have a place in a pro recording or mastering studio.. Anyone have anything good to say about it ? (anything bad is welcome too... hahhahah ) thanks ! ( I have the original plugin version that kinda always sounded a bit harsh and tiny... maybe the newer hardware version is better ? )
