Glad you're alright.

The same recommendation to you, my friend
Not that I disagree with your allusion to the USA's culture being one rooted in gun tradition, and that tradition probably having some part contributing to the level of violence experienced here versus other developed countries. However, this IS part of the culture of my country. There ARE and HAVE BEEN millions of weapons in circulation here since its founding. Legally or Illegally, it's easy to get a gun here. It's not changing, whether I like that or not.
SO, with that understood, the movement towards legitimate, legal, enabling of private LAW ABIDING citizens (even in particularly gun friendly states like mine, you still have to go through a pretty thorough background check by the state investigator to acquire a permit to carry), Has consistently, statistically, and quite significantly reduced violent crimes here.
Personally, I'd love to live somewhere that I wouldn't have to presume any threat presented COULD have a gun/knife/club. But I do. So I carry a 9MM, with 19 rounds and one in the chamber. An extra magazine also loaded with 19 rounds. I practice OFTEN and treat my pistols as another tool I use to make sure no matter what challenge I come up against, I have a measured response for it.
We're not all just a bunch of hicks running around treating our guns like a second dick. Some of us just prefer to be proactive.
