You have to remember that there is a big push from the federal, city and state governments to cut down on crime statistically. I have yet to find one person who actually thinks crime has dropped in this country, but the statistics say that it has fallen dramatically. By not reporting your incident, the statistics fall and the feds shower the state and city governments with money for the dropped statistics. Yes, it's bullshit. Dallas and several other cities have already been busted cooking the books, and absolutely nothing has happened to the people who did it. It's the law now in Austin that the cops won't even write a report if you've been robbed. It's up to you to go down to the municipal court and do it yourself. Does an investigation take place after you file the paperwork? Of course, not.
Luckily, we have the castle law here in Texas. If someone threatens you, you can take them down. You still get arrested, but you're usually let go in less than 24 hrs. with no charges filed. I don't know how it is where you are.
