just so ya know OP, I had the same setup for some songwriting I was doing at home a couple of years ago. on a desktop pc though. anyway, zero noise here. and I use m179s in my studio work all the time. so I think the above posts are probably right - wiring or similar grounding issue.
touching it reduces noise tends to mean that you're acting as a ground when you touch it, which means wiring issues somewhere.
where exactly is the question.
never experienced that with a laptop myself.
