Kind of correct.
You seem to be focusing on definitions of things when we're giving you TECHNIQUES.
My best advice is to go try everything we told you...and then when you get stuck come back and ask some questions.
I mean, if you've ever looked at the ES2's (or ANY SYNTH, for that matter) presets, you'd know what a pad is.
