I've been reading for months, and this forum is such an amazing source of knowledge and experience that it's taken me this long to come up with a question I couldn't find an answer for. I've read the Pre73 threads till my vision goes blurry, so I hope my question isn't answered somewhere in the depths.

I'm looking to expand my gear selection to make my ITB setup a little less sterile, and I've settled on the Pre73. My dilemma, however, is that there's no way I can afford Warren's full upgrade mod at the moment, and I have a project that I need it for ASAP. To my ears the mod makes a HUGE difference, and after hearing about possible biasing errors on the stock transistors, I was sold (but without the necessary fundage)

My question is, what are the correct capacitor values, and how many are needed? Also, is there a reliable source out there to get the Motorola transistors or a modern equivalent? What do I need to know for biasing? The transformers will be fairly straightforward once I get them shipped from the UK. I have some soldering skill, and a bench tech friend who will do it for a 6 pack of good Belgian Ale if I have all the parts and info ready for him.thumbsup

Any insights are appreciated!
Getting that info out of the people that actually know is like pulling teeth unfortunately. But maybe one of them would be kind enough to post it here! What I did was take the pics of the modded versions vs unmodded and go back and forth trying to spot all the changed caps. I want to say there were 11 but that was a few months ago and I never actually did the mods. The stock Pre 73 sounds so good its silly though, and if your tracks don't sound good it is most definitely NOT the fault of your preamp. I agree though that the modded version sounds better, but pro results are easily attainable with the unmodded version also.
