There are SO many "boutique" amps out there, all slightly different version of the same 3 or 4 basic flavors that it's impossible to recommend something to you. If you can give some examples of sounds that you like, that might help (although some of us are going to say the same amps no matter what sounds you like). Speakers are huge, the difference in clean volume between a pair of G12-25 greenbacks and a Blue is almost twice as loud. You can get some idea of the rating by looking at the dB 1w @ 1 meter, every 3 dB is like doubling the power, every 10 dB doubling the volume. So, for example, the Matchless has a very "hard" power section, and fairly sensitive speakers, it get a LOT of clean volume out of 30w. Probably all you need. OTOH, a 40w JTM 45 has a softer power section and wont' give you the overall guts that the Matchless does. I'd go to some good dealer with lots of stock and start trying stuff out...
