| Are the Kick and Snare in this demo "normal"?
Help! I'm getting a little myopic about how this demo sounds. I'm recording some close friends in my living room and I think maybe I know them too well / have heard the song too many times... oh yeah, it's been quite a while since I've hit the record button too.
What I'm really interested in are your opinons of the drums. Only a kick, snare, hi-hat and ride were set up. 2 mics were used (ATM25 on kick, Sennheiser 441 on snare). What you can hear of the cymbals is just bleed. We will setup the toms and other cymbals / mics in about a week to try and do the "real" recording (still going to be in my living room but it will be intended for eventual small release).
Do the kick and snare sound normal? Do they match eachother as far as pitch and tone? Or do they sound a little bit wierd or tweaky? I guess what I mean is when you hear them, do you do any kind of mental double-take... At this point I've lost any perspective that I might've had... can you hear that my living room has short (like 8.5 feet) ceilings and carpet?
All the other tracks are quickies that we threw up just to get some music around the drums to hopefully grab some perspective. We just wanna start off with a solid foundation of a good, dry, clean kick and snare. Your tips / suggestions / comments are very much appreciated.
