I found the mxl2001 to be much better on vocal overall than the V67g. I didn't actually try it out on Noesis. I used the V67g on bass cab and on Sax. Bob will tell you I almost never put condensers on sax - I'm a ribbon man here. But, original u87s I find work well on sax. Now I can add V67g to that list of condensers I will allow to be placed near a saxaphone.
The V67g has a very rounded bottom, and colorful low mid. And it has a frequency response that is remarkably similar though texturally different than an 87. Based on hearing Langston's voice through it, it didn't make it a go to choice for vocals when I had the Akita, Daisy, Chihuaha, mxl2001 mod, and Taho in the same room. I felt that on any voice, I had a better option - but this was mainly speculation, I didn't try it out.
The mxl2001 really surprised me. I didn't really know which mic was which or how much they cost when I put them up. And I didn't really care - and it was better I didn't know. But the mxl modd really shined as a vocal mic it was good all around, and really kicked ass on Dame's vocals. He has a low voice and the mxl really brought out the presence nicely. When I get back to the Studio this weekend I'll post up a clip.
