I've been working on this beat tonight on headphones, and it sounded fine. I went and popped the beat on my monitors and noticed that the keys in the sample I'm using have an annoying quality in the higher frequencies. I tried to EQ with the best of my ability but it's not doing much.
The basis of the beat so far is just one sample but finely chopped up and re-arranged (that way I'm not just limited to "open" samples), so when I'm messing with EQ, I'm messing with everything.
I'm not looking for pop music/radio type perfection. I prefer that dirty dusty raw diggin' in the crates kind of vibe to my beats.
The beat is rough I just started working on it, but you get the picture. I'm using Logic 8 with no additional plug-ins as my DAW.
If I can't make the sample non-irritating, it's not a big deal. I'll probably just scrap it and go back to crate digging. I want to know if and how I can remedy this before I do that.
Anyways, here is the beat.
