Varying materials will help to keep the wall from resonating at a certain frequency so yes you are right ! thumbsup

Double wall construction with a 12" air space and 2 layers of 5/8 drywall on each side the STC should be around 68db (or more) and that is way higher than a door or a window which is the weak link in the wall. The wall is only as soundproof as the weak link.
The treatment will also help to dampen my walls and ceiling so the resonating frequency should not be a problem.
