The side walls have both absorption and reflection.
Perhaps Wes could better explain.... I don't want to misinterpret what's really going on in the room. But the wood is calculated to purposely reflect some of the sound which helps with the imaging throughout the room. The back of course has some very effective bass trapping going on, along with soffits.
The end result is a control room that which sounds natural as opposed to "dead", and the sound is consistent wherever you are in the room. The sweet spot is as wide and far as I've ever heard.
