From the engineer standpoint:
Record a lot in mono / hard panning (LCR) / use saturationn during tracking.
Play with a real band. No Software Instrumets.
From the musicians standpoint:
Write a song in 60s to 70s style and try how far you can get.
May copy a song you like...
