I am 35 years old, and have been in the construction industry since high school. I have worked my arse off for 15 straight years, barely get any vacations or any free time at all.
I have also been in several original and cover bands. I have had to play songs that I absolutely dispised, and even though I felt stupid, even though I felt like I was selling out, the girl standing front of me with the big boobs and the great smile was way hotter than the guy telling me where to build a wall. I would do it for money because my alternatives for making money are very limited. I would kill to be able to play my guitar and live a happy life doing so, not even rich, just paying the bills.
As far as nickelback, I can say when I heard their first song I probably liked it but I have liked each one less and less and now the new stuff is just crap. They do all sound the same and that "rock star" song is so flipping gay it makes me want to puke.
Greed runs rampant through every aspect of our society, it is not limited to just music. If it works, sell it and do it again. Just like building houses. If a certain style house is selling like hot cakes, I'm not gonna build a different style of house just to suit my own artistic thirst. I'm gonna build what people want because this is how I feed my family. Same goes for nickelback, except I'm not sure whether they like the direction of their own music or not. I guess that would be the end all be all of the conversation. Did they sell out or is this really the music that he wants to play? If it is then much respect and I will respectfully decline to listen to it. The guy is very talented, whether he writes it himself or not, he plays and sings at the same time and he does it well. That alone makes alot of the posts in this thread ridiculous. People act like he's britney spears lip-syncing everything. He has talent for sure, I just don't care too much for the music.
